Fashion By Enrico Moses

Yo this is my Public Service Announcement.

Big Faces is about fashion. I am about fashion. I personally could care less what you call streetwear, premium, vintage, classic, urban or whatever other title you wanna put on these textiles that are made into patterns and then sewn together with exact precision.

Fashion is ever evolving and growing, kinda like the United States of America. I like to look at fashion as a big melting pot. Haha now I know that’s a little corney, but seriously. I have a dream, when one day a streetwear brand can play in the sand box with a urban brand, and premium brand all living in harmony.

But foreal I’m about fashion, bottom line

T.I. Talks New Album, The Paper Trail

Atlanta rapper T.I. is hard at work prepping his forthcoming album tentatively titled “The Paper trail.”

The “You Don’t Know Me” hitmaker, who has been under house arrest since late last year after allegedly purchasing three machine guns and two silencers from undercover ATF agents, says he has done around thirty tracks for the new album but is still recording.

“I’ve got about thirty-some tracks done, but I’ve got like sixteen that I’m in love with and I’m still working. After you get those sixteen, you try to make sixteen more to top them and you pick the best.”  T.I. tells Rollingstone Magazine.

“I’ve got records with Danja, I’ve got one record so far from DJ Toomp. I’ve got records from Little C and Keith Mack from Grand Hustle Productions, and records from J.R. Rotem and Jay Rock. Quite a few people.” He continued.

As far as what fans can expect from this album, T.I. says it’s reminiscent of a lot of his earlier albums such as , “I’m Serious.”

“I don’t know if I can put into words how it will be different from the last album, but I know you’ll definitely be able to tell the difference. The people who I’ve played it for, they say it reminds them a lot of the earlier albums I’m Serious and Trap Muzik. It’s called Paper Trail because for the first time since my very first album, I’m actually writing the lyrics down, pen and pad, old school style. I used to just listen to the music and go in the booth and rap. And now that I’m writing things down, I think it’s a little more eloquent.”

Retail Spaces

AMAZING SPACESIt’s pretty amazing to see how far the stakes have risen in the quest for the hottest retail space. Though at the end of the day, it’s still the product that matters, there’s something important to be said about how that product is positioned, shown and sold, especially when it’s by the same company that’s producing it. The big fashion houses have been addressing this need forever, but for the last several years as Streetwear and Urban Brands have become more established, there’s been a very clear effort by some companies to further separate themselves from the pack. The minimalist shop with simple polished concrete floors or the DIY – Ikea adapted displays just don’t cut it anymore regardless of how cool a brand is (or how cool they think they are). Below are a few favorite (recent) examples, as well as the firms that helped in making them happen.

Much respect to both Bathing Ape and Wonderwall for taking note and bringing this ideal to Streetwear, as well as consistently setting the bar and giving consumers some of the most beautiful spaces in which to purchase gear from.

Addendum (02/05/08): I’m surprised to see how quickly this entry made it’s rounds. Since then it’s been brought to my attention that I was a little ambiguous about who’s responsible for the great spaces you see below. Though I’m sure the agencies that helped put these projects together had input as to the concept, each of the apparel companies below represent some of the most creative and innovative players in the industry. In the case of Alife, as a crew they’ve often been involved in designing spaces for both themselves and others and Matt Fontana has a long history in interrior design and building out cool retail locations. Also knowing Kaws pretty well, it’s very clear that the OriginalFake shop is a beautifully realized interpretation of his aesthetic and thought process. Anyhow, I just wanted to point that out and make sure proper credit for these amazing spaces is given, since it’s most obviously due…

Jay-Z Preps New LP? Aint I : Blueprint 3 ????

Contrary to reports, Def Jam has not dropped its Roc-A-Fella roster, according to a label insider. Meanwhile, another rumor has begun flooding the Internet – Jay-Z may be working on an upcoming album, “Blueprint 3.”

Rumors of the label’s demise began to circulate after Peedi Peedi, himself a Roc-A-Fella artist, stated in a recent interview that the entire imprint had been dropped – which includes Kanye West, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Tru Life, and Young Gunz.

“Beans and Freeway didn’t get dropped,” said Mark Byers, manager for Beanie Sigel.

“I just got off the phone with L.A. Reid talking about the next video for ‘Rain’ featuring Raheem DeVaughn that we’re about to release. We’re re-launching Beanie’s project and releasing a ‘Rain’ remix with State Property.”

The rumor also comes shortly after Jay-Z announced in December he is not renewing his contract as Def Jam’s president – followed by the resignations of Jay Brown, A&R SVP, and Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith, A&R VP.

In related news, the rumor mill is already hopping on another piece of gossip: is Jay-Z recording a new album?

DJ Clue, who is also signed to Roc-A-Fella, released a street mixtape yesterday titled “I Am Legend,” featuring a new track “Ain’t I” by Jay-Z.

The mixtape’s tracklist describes the song as “(World Wide Exclusive), Blueprint 3.”

And on the song, DJ Clue adlibs in his signature echo: “New Jay-Z … off that ‘Blueprint 3,’ baby.”

No word yet on whether “Ain’t I,” produced by Timbaland, will be officially released on a forthcoming project.

Jay’s latest album, “American Gangster,” hit stores in November. It has since sold over 780,000 copies.
